Na veel kritiek heeft Twitter zijn verificatiebeleid aangepast. Op het platform kunnen gebruikers een blauw vinkje krijgen, als teken dat een account echt van een persoon is.
Maar veel mensen zijn het symbool ook gaan zien als steun aan het gedachtegoed van gebruikers. Het bedrijf heeft nu besloten om bij een aantal extreemrechtse accounts het vinkje weg te halen. Of dat ook bij extreemlinkse gebruikers gaat gebeuren wil Twitter niet zeggen.
/”We bekijken momenteel geverifieerde accounts en zullen blauwe vinkjes verwijderen bij accounts die tegen onze regels ingaan.”
Kort na de verklaring verwijderde het bedrijf de vinkjes bij enkele prominente extreemrechtse gebruikers…
