Engeland neemt paspoort van 150 Syriëgangers af: ‘Britse nationaliteit is geen absoluut recht’

De Britse overheid heeft 150 jihadisten en criminelen hun nationaliteit afgenomen om te voorkomen dat ze terugkeren uit Syrië.

Jihadi John, de bekendste Britse jihadstrijder.Dat heeft The Sunday Times onthuld. De Britten vrezen een toestroom van potentiële terroristen na de ineenstorting van Islamitische Staat.

Na de aanslagen in Londen en Manchester dit voorjaar is er een nieuwe fase in de strijd tegen terreur begonnen. In de tijd daarvoor was het Britse minister van Binnenlandse Zaken volgens critici tamelijk timide in de bestrijding van terreur.

Er zijn afgelopen jaren naar schatting 850 mensen met een Britse nationaliteit naar Syrië en Irak afgereisd om daar te vechten met IS. Zo’n 130 van hen zijn omgekomen, waaronder de bekende ‘Jihadi John’…
