Het strijden (jihad) dient altijd te gebeuren en door te gaan totdat de godsdienst uitsluitend voor Allah is. Dus wanneer u zich bekeert tot de islam en moslim wordt stopt deze strijd pas. Ieder die Allah verwerpt is in strijd met de islam, voert oorlog tegen de islam.
Een gebied dat voornamelijk niet-moslim is, heet dan ook Dar al-Harb hetgeen huis van oorlog betekent. Eerst wanneer de islam dominant is dan spreekt de islam over Dar al-Islam, huis van vrede.
Overigens geschiedt het vechten, het voeren van strijd tegen de ongelovigen, de oorlog, tot de dag des oordeels, of totdat het gebied geheel veranderd is in een islamitische staat, dus een kalifaat.
