Woensdag gaf Borjani een interview op de Belgische tv-zender VRT. Borjani vertrok in 2013 als jihadiste naar Syrië, maar was voor haar vertrek al sterk geradicaliseerd. Ze sprak openlijk haar sympathie uit voor terroristische organisatie Islamitische Staat. Ook behoorde ze tot de harde kern van een groep jihadisten uit de omgeving van Zoetermeer en Den Haag. Dat meldt De Telegraaf. ‘Ik verlang naar het kalifaat,’ schreef Borjani in 2013 al op Twitter.
