A south London school has outraged parents after proposing it switches to serving only halal food in the canteen.
Wolsey Academy, in Croydon, asked parents via a simple form with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ tickbox whether or not ‘they would like to see the menu go over to halal’ – according to a petition set up by parents to block the move.
The site says: “Parents of children attending Wolsey Step Academy School in New Addington Croydon were today handed a slip of paper asking to choose if they would like to see the menu go over to Halal.
“The simple tick yes or no slip did not provide any explanation inform parents where to go if they object.
“This has angered some parents and caused discussions on social media.”
Animal rights groups slam the practice, saying that many of the animals are not stunned before their throats are cut.
